Game Overview ~The PC's are asleep in their inn room, when Khayle is awoken by the sound of a horse galloping through the city streets.

~He goes to the window, and sees a caped man quickly speeding though the deserted town towards the outskirts.

~He wakes his allies, and they quickly and quietly exit the room through the window. The follow the man as best they can until he dissapears into a forest.

~The PC's begin to search through the forest for a man they believe to be a Shadow Thief. They find nothing, but hear the sound of a wagon-train travelling from the clearing. The PC's exit the forest, back towards the town, and see a caravan on its way past the town.

~The PC's see the shadowy figures of men scurrying around the caravan, hanging from the sides of it, and climbing into it. Vincent uses the spell Fortify to make a mound of earth in front of the caravan to stop it. The mound is 3 feet high, and causes the caravan to halt.

~The 3 quickly run towards the wagons. Khayle goes towards the back of the train, and enters the last wagon. Garrak goes toward the front wagon and enters it. Vincent waits outside.

~Khayle finds an empty room, holding only a few beds and extra wagon parts. He exits the wagon and enters the next one up towards the front.

~Garrak enters the front wagon only to see a caped man crouched, silently sneaking up behind the driver of the wagon-train. Before Garrak can do anything, the caped man shoves his dagger into the back of the neck of one of the drivers. The other driver immediately jumps from his seat to avoid the other man trying to get to his throat. The remaining driver quickly pulls the hair of the caped man, who is distracted by Garrak, backwards and bends him backwards over the chair, then proceeds to shove his own dagger into the man's neck. Garrak charges at the remaining Shadow Thief and swings his morning star but misses. The thief quickly dodges, and flicks a dagger from his rist, hitting Garrak in his sternum area. The melee continues for another round, then Garrak feels an unusual burning from where his dagger wound is, and collapses on the floor, from poison.

~Khayle finds inside the next wagon, two more men fighting off two Shadow Thieves. Khayle immediately joins the fray. A fight insues between Khayle using his martial arts, and the thief using a musket. Khayle lands some blows, and is shot once in the abdomen, but is not seriously hurt. The thief gets in a few shots with the stock of the musket to Khayle's head, and reloads his weapon. Khayle attacks again and misses, giving the thief enough time to get off a fatal shot, hitting him in the forhead. Khayle collapses to the floor.

~Vincent becomes inpatient and enters the wagon Khayle was in, only to find his friend dead on the floor. He runs at the thief and uses the spell Cause moderate wounds several times, severely injuring the thief, until the thief gets off a shot that hits Vincent in the eye. While Vincent is stunned, the thief grabs his cloak and throws him from the wagon, into a heap on the grass outside.

~Meanwhile, Garrak wakes up from his unconscious state. He then goes on a rampage entering wagon after wagon and mercilessly slaughters many Shadow Thieves.

~Garrak when coming out of one wagon, see Vincent writhing in pain in the grass. Vincent tells him that Khayle is dead in the car right in front of them. Garrak quickly enters the wagon and retrieves the lifeless body of his friend. As he is picking up a bloody Khayle, a small flask flies in the wagon from the opposite side that he entered, through a hole in the wall. Garrak throws Khayle over his shoulder, and jumps from the wagon as the flask sends a massive explosion ripping through the train. He picks up Vincent over his other shoulder, and carries both his friends up to the front car, where the one remaining driver rewards them with 3 amethysts.

~Garrak carries his severely injured friends back to the town, as a caravan burns in the background.

~Khayle is taken to his temple, where his superiors resurrect him, in exchange for the gem he reveived for his efforts, which will be put toward the church. Vincent is taken to a healer's and has his eye repaired magically.

~Just as Khayle is laying in his bed at the temple resting the numerous wounds he recieved, a message comes for him. It is an invitation. It contains directions to a place in a nearby town, and the message reads..."my old friends are invited to try my new creation"

DM's CONCLUSION
Not a pretty adventure. The party thought they had the craft Shadow Thieves as they tried to hijack a passing wagon-train containing several valuable shipments, which I should add, were mostly missing after all was said and done. They learned that things are never easy when Shadow Thieves are involved, and continue to ponder ways to put an end to the group.

Also, if you're wondering what the deal was with the note that Khayle received at the end, here's the story. If you read the character sheets, you will see that Garrak is actually a Vampire slayer. His father before him was a Vampire slayer, but came up missing after going out on a hunt. In and adventure we played before this site was up, the PC's were lured into a fun-house type mansion, where a vampire by the name of Jack played with people's minds and scared them half to death. While making their way through this "fun house," the PC's encountered large boxes, when touched, sprung open to reveal huge jack-in-the-boxes made with real human corpses, with their faces painted like clowns. It was here that Garrak noticed his father was one of them. They made their way through the rest of the house and encountered Jack, whom at the time, they had never seen before. He escaped the encounter, and his fun-house was burned by an angry mob of citizens. As the house went up in flames, a small singed piece of parchment fell into the hands of Khayle which read..."Not over by a long shot, see you soon." Now, with the invitation, which matches the handwriting of the parchment, the PC's have been invited to Jack's new and improved fun-house. What is to come, is anyone's guess.
